Does Windex Kill Germs. The answer is it depends on two questions. What product are you using and are you using it correctly.
Let’s talk about original Windex. Here are the ingredients

2-Hexoxyethanol – Cleaning Agent
Isopropanolamine – Cleaning Agent
Ammonium Hydroxide Cleaning – Agent
Lauryl Dimethyl Amine Oxide – Wetting Agent
Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate – Wetting Agent

A lot going for a product many believe has ammonium as its main ingredient.
The answer is no, Windex original formula does not kill germs.
It gets glass shiny but will not produce a germ-free phone. The chemicals it contains although hard to pronounce are not germ killers. There is a difference between a clean looking surface and a surface that is germ free.
Windex Disinfectant Multi-Surface Cleaner can kill germs.
It contains ingredients that can kill germs. But to kill germs, you need to use in the correct way. The first set of directions will not kill germs, the second will.
HOW TO USE. Note, these directions although easy to do will not kill germs, only clean the area.
To clean:
Step 1: Spray surface.
Step 2: Wipe with a dry paper towel or lint-free cloth.
The directions below will kill germs. Note, these directions take more time and are not as easy to do.
First, the directions to sanitize hard non-porous surface. For a surface to be non-porous this means it cannot absorb water. For example, a phone screen is non-porous and will not absorb water.
- The first thing you need to do is pre-clean heavily soiled areas.
- Spray surface until thoroughly wet.
- Let stand for 10 minutes.
- Wipe with a dry paper towel or lint-free cloth.
Note: Do not use on glasses, utensils or dishes. All food contact surfaces such as appliances and kitchen countertops must be rinsed with water.
